Paver lippage is a height difference between adjacent paving-unit edges; it is distinct from a deliberately sloped paved surface.

An edge-to-edge condition
CMHA maintenance guidance treats surface condition as part of pavement performance. Lippage describes adjacent units at different elevations, not the cause of that difference. A visible lip can be documented without establishing which support layer has moved. See CMHA operation and maintenance of interlocking concrete pavement.
Drainage slope is not the same thing
A planned overall slope directs water across a pavement. An abrupt local edge difference concerns neighboring surfaces. Do not assume every nonlevel area is faulty or that any raised corner is intentional drainage.
Observe without a universal tolerance
Record affected locations, whether the condition changes and whether people catch a foot on the transition. Acceptance criteria depend on the project, materials and applicable requirements. This guide does not set a universal allowable height or certify accessibility.
Treatment depends on the underlying condition
A local assessment may consider individual units, bedding, base, edge restraint and surrounding disturbance. Surface grinding or refilling joints is not a universal correction. Ask what evidence supports the proposed repair and whether drainage will be preserved.
Planning the next step
Identify whether the pavement carries pedestrians, vehicles or poolside traffic and provide photos of the full area, not just one joint. Mention previous repairs, known coatings and where runoff travels. Ask which observations support the proposed treatment and whether supporting layers need assessment. This guide concerns conventional concrete pavers unless a different system is specifically identified; natural stone, mortared and permeable assemblies require their own guidance.

Frequently asked questions
Is lippage the same as pavement slope?
No. Lippage concerns neighboring edge heights; overall slope concerns surface drainage.
Does a raised edge prove the base failed?
No. The assembly and surrounding conditions need inspection.
Does this guide set an allowable trip-edge dimension?
No. Project criteria and applicable requirements must be checked.
