Screen fabric held straight within a pool cage or lanai opening, without folds or excessive pulling.

What screen tension means
Screen tension describes how the mesh is held across an opening after it is secured in the frame. A smooth appearance is useful, but appearance alone does not establish a measured installation specification. The fabric, opening dimensions, retaining spline and condition of the groove all matter.
Wrinkles, sagging and edge gaps
Look separately at the middle of the fabric and the perimeter. Loose fabric may ripple, while a pulled-out edge may leave an insect gap. A tear, displaced spline or bent frame can resemble a tension problem; a photograph does not prove which part has failed.
Installation and material selection
Phifer’s installation instructions describe keeping screening straight while rolling it into the groove. These instructions do not establish a universal tension value for large pool cage panels. Ask which mesh and spline fit the actual frame before replacing the screen.
Repair instead of stretching
Reworking an edge may be appropriate when the mesh and frame remain sound. Damaged or deteriorated fabric may need replacement. Pulling harder is not a substitute for a compatible retaining system and can distort a light frame or damage the mesh.
Maintenance and safe inspection
Observe accessible wall panels from the ground, keep furniture away from mesh and note when a gap first appeared. Do not lean on screening, climb the enclosure or reach roof panels from the frame. Screen mesh is not a fall barrier.
What to ask during an estimate
Identify the affected opening, whether the problem is a wrinkle, tear or loose edge, and whether other panels have the same condition. Request an assessment of the mesh, groove, spline and frame rather than a promised universal tension setting.

Frequently asked questions
Does tighter screen always perform better?
No. Mesh must be installed appropriately for the fabric and frame; excessive pulling is not an upgrade.
Can sagging be fixed without replacing all panels?
Sometimes. The repair depends on the condition of the affected mesh, retaining spline and frame, not simply the appearance of the whole enclosure.
Does screen tension give a pool cage a wind rating?
No. Screen appearance or tension does not establish an enclosure wind rating or replace structural evaluation.
