Seamless gutter downspout elbow is an angled fitting that changes the direction of a downspout between the outlet and discharge point.

A direction-changing fitting
Amerimax gutter instructions show elbows as fittings within a connected drainage assembly. Their shape and orientation need to suit the actual downspout. An elbow changes the route; it does not independently determine capacity or provide a safe discharge location. See Amerimax gutter system installation instructions — product-specific example.
Connections need compatible geometry
Rectangular and round systems use different matching parts. Identify the pipe profile and desired offset before replacing fittings. Similar-looking bends may not connect properly or provide the intended orientation against the wall.
Restrictions can be concealed
Debris can collect where the pipe changes direction, and a loose connection may leak while water still flows. Inspect the connected path rather than assuming the visible bottom elbow explains all gutter overflow above it.
Routing is a complete-system choice
Review clearances, attachment, maintenance access and final discharge when modifying bends. Avoid directing roof water into doorways, across walking paths or onto adjoining property. An extra bend is not a substitute for drainage planning.
Safe inspection and project boundaries
Record the condition from the ground and explain whether it appears during rain or after the gutter has drained. Roof access, loose sections and concealed fascia attachments require appropriate professional access and assessment. Never climb or walk on a pool cage to reach a gutter. A drainage component at a house-to-enclosure connection may also need structural review; this definition does not prescribe a connection repair.

Frequently asked questions
Is an elbow the same as a gutter outlet?
No. The outlet leaves the trough; an elbow changes pipe direction.
Can round and rectangular elbows be interchanged?
Not without compatible system fittings and guidance.
Does adding an elbow fix inadequate capacity?
No. Capacity and the entire water path need separate evaluation.
